JETOPA – Life Goes On

“Life Goes On”, a 6-song EP, marks Jetopa’s second release, which follows on the heels of their 2006 debut album “Desert Flight”.  The central theme surrounding “Life Goes On” revolves around the fluid nature of relationships in one’s life.  While people come and go within all of our lives, often out of unexpected change comes strength and personal growth.  Much like the sense of loss that spurred Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven,” Jetopa’s heartfelt ballad “Twin Angels” recounts the tragic story of a young couple recovering from the unexpected loss of their newborn twin babies.  While also related to the loss of a loved one, the more upbeat Beatlesesque “China Charlie” is a tribute to the late great American architect Charlie Sims, who after living an extraordinary life abroad, found a new life living in China before passing away unexpectedly.

“Waiting For You” gives the listener insight into the life of a middle-aged husband reconciling the emotions of his wife leaving him in search of both herself and potentially greener pastures.  Coupled with the concept of abandonment, the hypnotic instrumental piece “Alone” is reminiscent of that timeless transitional period after withdrawing from a serious relationship where time seems to lose all significance.  The acapella track “Tongue Twister” is a melange of throat singing and other bodily sounds that pound out an entertaining, funky rhythm devoid of any musical instruments — a subtle reminder of when one is stripped of everything, they just have themselves to rely upon.  The final track, “Life Goes On (Extended Version)”, is an extended remix of Jetopa’s wildly popular track from their 2006 debut album “Desert Flight”. This concluding track, while intimately tied with the album cover art depicting the seasonal peeling of bark from a majestic tree, is a reminder of the perseverance of the human spirit as we all shed our old skin and remain proudly standing in the face of adversity — LIFE GOES ON!

“Life Goes On” … celebrates the varying shades of emotions characterizing human existence, ranging from sadness to joy.  Particularly sentimental is the “Twin Angels” ballad, the story of a young couple fallen into desperation over  the loss of their two children, twins,  still infants.  The lyrics of the tracks, for the images they portray, convey a similarity to the magic and loss thread of Lou Reed’s compositions: feelings of pain, death, suffering, and loneliness one experiences due to loss, whether of loved ones or of people unknown, despite which, after all, as the title of the song and the CD says, “life goes on.”  The persevering spirit of man yields a strength within us that ultimately enables us to face the challenges, adversities and difficulties of life, despite our failures and the continuously varying tones of emotional and sentimental feelings which characterize life as we live it …”
